Hello Everybody!

I've been riding on a CBT now for about 4 months and have lovely Suzuki RV125 VanVan. While I enjoy riding this bike I am getting itchy feet and looking to move up to something with a bit more power. As my finances will not allow this for the foreseeable future, I want to see if there's anything I can do to get more power out of my current bike.

Firstly then, how can I tell if it's restricted? I know this may sound like a stupid question but it is my first bike. Also, if it is restricted, what kind of things would I have to do to it? (I know many posters may be unfamiliar with the bike but as far as I'm aware it uses the same engine as the Suzuki Marauder). I appreciate that I will not get the same sort of performance as a 2-stroke race derivative but it would be nice to get a bit more poke pulling away from the lights.

Finally, if I do de-restrict it in any way, what implications does it have on my insurance and general legality on the road?

I hope someone out there can help me on this and look forward hearing some of your suggestions.

I'm afraid the only thing I can help you with is the insurance and legal problems.

If you ride it unrestricted on a CBT licence, then you will not be insured and in effect not have a licence. You can be fined for both of these, however, most people do take the risk, as the average beat bobby won't know the difference.

As most people on the forum will say, "do your test". Smile

Generally 4 Stroke 125's can't be derestricted. They usually are full power at 15 bhp or whatever the limit is.

Yep thats pretty much what I was going to say.

The unfortunate and rubbish response that we all must give to this question is: "Do your test and buy a bigger bike." I'm afraid.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Thanks, I guessed that was probably the case. Oh well! I'm sure I'll be able to afford a new bike by the end of the summer!
