A question I've been wondering about recently is: is there a major difference in riding different types of bike?
I eventually want to be riding a middleweight sports (R6 or ZX6R), so should I be learning on a 125 sports? If I learnt to ride on a cruiser say, for a few months, would the difference in riding position mean I would have to re-learn on a sports (NSR Very Happy ) to get the feel?

nope.

The thing is, with japanese bikes, no matter what you ride they are all essentianally the same. Even on a big slow revving cruiser twin, it'll rev quite happily if you want it to. Similarly a 600 4 cyl sports bike will bimble along at low revs.

Riding positions are different, but you adapt after about a mile.

I think low speed maneuvering is a bit different on a sports bike because you need to try a bit harder to keep your weight off the bars, maybe that's just me. You do get used to it pretty quickly though
