I was fluctuating between gold and green for a while, think I'm planted in the same boat as you for changing my name, and will be further when I change it back. Things that result in my Karma depleting (I believe):

Short Posts.
Foul language.
Random banter constantly rather than workyshop.
Using bad grammar and spelling as a pisstake, the karma gods still see it as bad grammar.

When I first joined I studied the karma system and then made sure I thoroughly abused it Laughing

By this I mean that you definitely get more karma if you talk about bikes and a ton is given to you if you get awarded karma in the almighty workshop! New bikers, touring and general bike chat are also where karma is much increased.

I also have a feeling that the amount of karma that is awarded to you in proportion to how much you post has a big effect.

I have much karma so far because I post in the workshop, join in with many bike subjects even though I have no idea what I'm talking about sometimes, did a big tour, posted it and got much karma and I am always saying welcome in the the "hi, I'm new!" threads.

Not that I did all of this on purpose. I mostly just post how I want to and this is the result. I try to go for quality rather than quantity but occasionally you've just got to break down and quote a post followed by single Laughing
