i am after some advice.
I have had my race bike for several years. i purchased it off a friend. I was aware that he had replaced the frame after a crash with a frame with out a number. At the time i did not think this was a problem.
However i advertised it on ebay and was led to believe by a potential buyer that there is a problem in having a numberless frame. Is this an issue and if so is there anything i can do. i do have the frame number of the old frame is that useful.

The bike does not have a V5 either

Thanks

Didn't think there was a problem (i.e. it's not illegal), it just cannot be put on the road.

It does, I suppose, make it look more like a nicked bike, who's frame number has been ground off. If the frame is clearly untampered with, then this concern would be lessened somewhat.

If your mate has an invoice for the new frame that would help confirm its genuine track bike status.

Was it ever road registered (i.e. before the crash and reframing)?

And what bike is it, just out of interest? Ebay linky?

cheers for the help.

the frame is clean. the frame number area is pristine so no tampering. I have the original number, but no documentation for the replacement frame.
I need to relist the bike as the twat bought it then asked about the frame and changed his mind. apparently he sells expensive race cars and bike in germany and would not sell a bike without a frame number, dont know what he wants with a 2000 spec Yamaha R6

the ebay number is 330411698163 if you are interested. dont think that changes when i relist it.

the frame is brand new from the manufacturer from the sound of it, you have to apply to the dvla for it to be stamped somehow, ideal for a racbike but a roadbike you may have problems.

ask on motoforum.net as this questions comes up all the time.

Hi

Suspect for road use you would just stamp it with the existing number (hence why they don't come with a number).

However for Germany there might be some issues with registering a bike that has had frame damage.

All the best

Keith

You should mention in the eBay advert that it doesn't have a frame number as without a frame number it can't be raced.
