WTF...

I've got an NSR125, and a ZZR600, I'm halfway through doing my DAS and want to get insured on the ZZR so that i can do my MOD2.

Can i fuck find a company that will insure me as a lerner on the ZZR! My insurance company now (cant think of the name off the top of my head) wont insure a second bike on my policy, and all the other insurance places i phone wont insure me on it unless i've got a full licence..

how the hell am i supposed to insure the bike to take my test, if no-one will insure me until i've passed??

i'm sure my current policy includes me riding other bikes, so i think i should be insured to ride the ZZR 3rd party, as i would be out with the examiner and in radio contact etc so it's not riding outside what my licence will allow, if that makes sense? though i'm sure if i checked the small print there would be some sort of a clause that would stop me riding it !

Also - My dad still has the ZZR insured (his old bike) incase it got nicked etc, and he's phoned his insurance and they wont add a learner to the policy either.

anyone got any idea's as i'm stumped ?? Sad

If wanting to use your own bike to take your test then you'll have to use a van to a trailer to get the bike to the test centre.

Your insurance might cover you to ride other peoples bikes, it won't cover you to ride other bikes that you own.

It'll be expensive to get your bike insured for you to use it for your test and it'll be hassle to get your bike to the test centre, so just use one of the training schools bikes.

My dad can ride the bike to the test centre for me...

The ZZR is still registered in my Dads name, as he still has an insurance policy on it incase of theft etc, hasn't been any point signing it over to me yet as i've not been able to ride it!

I've not had any training, i've been riding various bikes for 8 years (ish) so going to try my luck without any lessons, and i'm not sure any training schools would mind lending me a bike if i've not done any training with them!!

Kal - only tried a handful of places so far, and for the time being i'm only after 3rd party, purely so i can legally take my test etc, then when i've passed, i'll either change my current policy to the ZZR or cancel it and start a new policy (depending on how much my current insurers (Aquote) want to charge.

Thanks
Ol.

I think you'll find the ZZR600 is above 35kW, which means that LEGALLY you cannot ride it as a learner unless:

    1) You are accompanied at all times by an approved instructor on another bike and in radio contact.
    2) You wear fluorescent or reflective clothing and follow all other provisional licence restrictions.

You may find that is the problem with insuring it?

surely any insurance co. that will cover you will probably be a rip off and you'd be better off using the money on a couple of lessons and use the school's bike?

i would, but i'm completely stoney broke.. literally broke!! i would have managed to pay to set up the insurance, but that about it..

The joy's of 2x kids, 2x bikes, wife, car, house etc etc leaves me with about £2.89p to last me the month !

Also, to add to my previous post, insuring anything that is NOT in your name gets you assraped by insurance in my experience.

In that case, how did you get the ZZR to the test centre to do your mod 1, without insurance?!!! - I'm assuming your Dad rode it there for you?

I'm not sure if you are automatically insured while taking your test??? - there must be a company somewhere that will insure you... Have you tried the comparison websites, I find them to be quite good.

Edit: Paulington has answered that one!

I would be very carfull of riding that as owned by your dad on your cover of bikes not owned by you. Especially if you both live at the same address.
Ins co could think you are pushing the limits.

If you are going to do it, call and clear it with them 1st.

so as long as you are riding it in accordance with the restrictions on your licence there should be no problem with insuring it
I insured my xj600 whilst still a learner in case it got stolen, I ticked the provisional licence holder box on the online application form and had no problems getting it insured.
try the comparison sites.
