I have this assignment, make a presentation based off the statement:
"There is no evidence that person-centred counselling is effective."
I think it's meant to be a perversely challenging statement as person-centred counselling works about as well as any other sort (depending on the client's problems ofc, some therapies are more appropriate than others in certain situations.) Anyhoo, I'm considering whether I should just do the work and layout the evidence for and against (spoiler alert, it's mostly for) or indulge in a little subversion
Of course there's the de rigueur insertion of multiculturalism into the textbooks, square peg in a round hole style I'm wondering if I should wilfully misinterpret their term "collectivist societies" (Japan is collectivist BTW) in political rather than social terms and argue person-centred counselling encourages a the individual to realise their self-worth and therefore not place their trust entirely in the State so therefore bad
In essence subvert the concept of "effective." Effective for whom? The individual or the collective? Surely an external locus of evaluation is a good thing?!
As a masterwork of satire I think it'd be wasted ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |
