How do they hold up against other bikes? Are there any mods worth doing?
I'm getting one when I pass my advanced (yes, you can get them road reg'd, I've got my eye on one). I want to use it for off road aswel tho. Anyone got any experience with these beasts?
If I geared it for road use, would it still hold it's ground off the road? Or would it be worth me saving up the bit extra for a CRF450? ____________________ 125 trail bike, custom bars, handguards etc. - ?500.

If you intend to use it mainly off road the 250 would be your best bet, but you would have to keep fairly low gearing. They come geared for short circuit MX so upgearing a little for trail use would be ok but very long road gearing off road would not be very usable. Riding it on road would not be great, they are very peaky engines and not too suitable.
If you intend to use it mainly on the road (supermoto??) the 450 is a much better idea, but could be a handful if you do take it off road. Both will be very fragile and need stacks of maintenance, so if you intend it as anything other than a weekend toy I would consider something else - either bike will happily eat you out of house and home!
If you're after a fun bike to use both on/off road how about an enduro? Not as 'sharp' as the motocross bikes but a lot easier on the wallet... ____________________ 3516 Miles, 11 Countries |

they are fairly good. nearly killed myself on one. ive used a crf maybe 4 times now i think. easily ridden, can be pushed pretty hard. wheelies in every gear except top (not sure how many gears its got, i just thump through them until i come to a bend) sound pretty jazzy even with the standard exhaust too
its the only bike above 125 ive ridden, so i cant realy give you a 'review'. just the fact that they are alot of fun and fairly easy to ride. |
