What do you say to the dealer when you ask for a testride? Do you pretend that you're after buying it? I wouldn't mind popping to my local dealer and testriding a couple of their bikes, but I'm not sure whether I should go in there pretending that I'm after buying or just go in and ask for a testride.

Depends on the dealer. This guy is a mate and I told him I want to get a new bike. He also knows I have an inheritance due so actually can afford it. I had to agree to pay a £1000 excess if I crashed the bike.

He said that he wouldn't let me buy a bike without test riding it first, and implied that he wouldn't let any old body off the street test ride it unless they showed interest in the bike. But I could be wrong.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

When I was getting test rides, I said Ive got £3000 to spend on a bike what have you got ?

They then asked me what sort of bike I wanted, I said I didnt know and I'd like to try a few to find out. An hour test ride is reasonable.

Make sure they charge the battery the night before though as if its been in the showroom a while, it might start initially but you could have a problem if you stop. I had this and had to be picked up.

Also make sure you know how to start whatever bike up, clutch in, what to do with immobilizer etc.

Some places will expect you to put your own petrol in, others wont.
This time of year they will be dieing for a sale but I dont think its the best time of year to try out a fast bike. Maybe try a a big trail bike or something.
