Ok, a bit of a niche question here.

We are doing various stuff with CME's (Call Manager Express). These run on various Cisco routres; using IOS as you might expect.

I know there's various ways you can configure the login to work:
With or with a username, or even without both username and password I believe.

Does anyone know how to configure this?
Have done a few googles, but not come up with much.

While we're here, anyone reccomend any course books for the basic CCNA exams?

There are alot of help guides on Cisco's web site.

I found it very helpfull when configuring a PIX Firewall.

G

I can recommend the Sybex Books for the CCNA exam, got me through first time. I've got an oldish copy you can borrow if you'd like to have a flick through.

Hi G,

To set up telnet access from a command window you;
router>en
router#conf t
router(config)#line vty 0 4
router(config-line)#password (your password)
router(config-line)#login
this config will not prompt for a user name and just use the password specified above
or
router(config-line)#login local (will use local user names to authenticate telnet session)

hope this helps?

to add a user

router(config)#user (name) password (password)
This sets a user in the "local" database on the router.

Wantser Thumbs Up

Cool, just what I was looking for.

Have sorted the username thing, but not the rest.

Will have a play when I get back to work in a minute Thumbs Up.

Have played with the user stuff already, just not the actual login method.

Also ensure you have an account set up for your self!

Once the "login local" command is set you will not be able to logon just using the password set in the "router(config-line)#password (password)" command.

And also ensure your access lists if you have any allow the access.
Made that mistake before!!

Good luck
