Hi G,
To set up telnet access from a command window you;
router>en
router#conf t
router(config)#line vty 0 4
router(config-line)#password (your password)
router(config-line)#login
this config will not prompt for a user name and just use the password specified above
or
router(config-line)#login local (will use local user names to authenticate telnet session)
hope this helps?
to add a user
router(config)#user (name) password (password)
This sets a user in the "local" database on the router.

Cool, just what I was looking for.
Have sorted the username thing, but not the rest.
Will have a play when I get back to work in a minute .
Have played with the user stuff already, just not the actual login method.

Also ensure you have an account set up for your self!
Once the "login local" command is set you will not be able to logon just using the password set in the "router(config-line)#password (password)" command.
And also ensure your access lists if you have any allow the access.
Made that mistake before!!
Good luck
