PostPosted: 18:58 - 14 Feb 2006    Post subject: Creating pdf documents. advice please. Reply with quote

I have a 300 page manual that I wish to scan in & save as pdf.
My scanner software allows me to do this, but the only way to do it is either sit there and scan all 300 pages then save as one big file, or I can scan it in chapters and save it in several smaller files. If I do it this way its still a lot of scanning as some of the chapters are 70 pages. I cannot scan 10 pages in, save, then scan some more in later as the software doesn't allow. Once I have saved the file is finalised so to speak.
I think I need a full copy of adobe acrobat, but would this allow me to keep adding more pages to a document?
Does anyone know of any other software that will let me do this?
Please dont tell me to google it, as I dont want to search through hundreds of pages. I just want some straightforward advice please...
thanks.

Windows should open that if you double click on it then just instal winrar and the other folder will then open for you to instal the programme.

If your running windows just double click it, it should open windows own built in extraction.

And if not then just download the demo of winrar.

I cant upload a .exe or i would have already done it.

I'm not sure to be honest. I've just been looking at that prog tho & I think that will do. I can just scan a few pages a night & then keep merging the files together.

There is another way if you want. If you can scan your pages into an text editor?

If so then the Writer in the OpenOffice suite (similar to Microsoft Office but free!!) can export your document to pdf once you have finished creating it (ie. save the work so far and then come back add some more and so on, then create the pdf once finished). Download OpenOffice here (it is about 70MB); https://www.openoffice.org/

Then once finished your doc just hit this button in Writer;

Don't know if this is better for you or not! HTH.

Yamaha yzf750 factory shop manual. I've been trying to get it on disk for 18 months with no luck. I've got 2 versions of the haynes one, but cannot get the genuine yam.

I got a scanned copy of the Haynes yzf750/thunderace manual off that guy but to be honest its a crap scan. I've got a much better version now. I want to scan in my genuine manual though. Then I can just print off pages I require rather than getting my manual oily.

You could try Scan2PDF. You scan as many pages as you want at one sitting and save them to a .pdf file. Later you open the .pdf file and attach further pages.

https://www.burrotech.com/

BTW it ain't free

If you're anywhere near Croydon you could pass it to me and I'll scan it in on a copier at work - you can scan strait to email in a variety of formats and quality levels - pdf being one of them. Thumbs Up
It's all about auto-feeders, I certainly wouldn't like to scan 300 pages on my home scanner!
