Windows ME

I didn't have a problem for 3 years until it failed big time with .dll errors.

I need it as a more advanced version of 98SE for things you can't do with XP lets say.

I agree that ME is shocking but in sickpups situation theres not much option, although i'd rather use 98 if at all possible.

So Sickpup, what software/hardware works on Windows ME and not 98SE? Cos they are the same OS virtually, and if it will work on ME it will work on 98SE.

Only time I've not had anything work on 98SE is when it requires Windows 2000 or higher (the OSes built on the NT kernel).

ME is probably the worst OS in recent history, and will also require a shitload of patches. Not sure why patches should slow an OS down either

You still said you wanted ME cos it can't do things that 98SE can.

Unless you mean things like the restore functions, cos thats the only thing ME has that XP has too.

Also 98SE, is far from slow with patches installed, though its getting long in the tooth now to be useful.
Multitasking was dire on Windows ME too, open 2 or more programs and it slows down more than 98SE would with a few 'patches'.

Why not get Windows 2000, a much better OS than 98SE or ME ever were and it shares the stability of XP without the requirements it has.

I dont understand why everyone seems to have such a problem with ME. Everyone says its shite, but they dont say why? My pc (Athlon 64 3000+) runs fine. It doesn't crash, slow down or do anything it shouldn't. What could XP offer me that I dont already have?

ME is the worst operating system Microsoft ever released. I include Win95 in that aswell, as for all its crap memory management and basically being a 32 bit extension of DOS, it allowed the average idiot to use a computer with very little training. ME is just terrible! If you cant use WinXP, use 2000, or even NT4 if your really desperate, but not anything based on FAT32 and DOS. We have finaly got rid of DOS by the looks of it, all we need now is to get rid of x86 architecture and all its buggyness and we might be getting somewhere.
