Speaking on fridges, our's is un-well, can anyone shed any light on whats wrong with it.

It's a fridge freezer, 'Hotpoint', about 18 months old.

It would appear water is constantly running down the inside of the freezer compartment and freezing at the base. A lot of the time the water doesn't get chance to freeze and puddles out on the floor.

It's been like it for a few months, but we're too lazy to sort it, it just sits with a tea-towel under it to catch the drips! Naturally I refused to pay the £120 for the extended warranty.

Any help appreciated Thumbs Up

It's hard as sin to fault find over the web, but a few guesses regarding the water....

It could have a shortage of refrigerant.

It could have blocked capillary tube.

It may have a drain hose to rid the water from inside, this hose may appear down near the compressor somewhere, this hose could be blocked.

Stuck on defrost.(if it has defrost)

Knackered thermostat.

Crap door seal.

Is it fan assisted.

Does it hold temperature in both compartments.. fridge/freezer?

As you can see, there are allot of causes.

More info mate, is this a fridge freezer? If so is it frost-free? Is it kept indoors or in a garage etc?

Cheers for the help...

It's kept in the kitchen, and is indeed frost free.

Fridge and freezer have been working fine, other than the pool of water. There are no warning signs on the digital display.

Not fan assisted.

Where does the water come from?? I assume it is condensation of some sort.

Frost free is indeed fan assisted, it needs the fan to extract the moisture, sounds like either the fan is busted,or the circulation is blocked so the air cant get round. Problems can occur if the freezer is understocked also as it means the mechanism has to work harder.

More seriously though it could be serious and need a re-gas or such. I would get the engineer in as you have a 5 yr parts guarrantee, so will only have to pay the labour.

Cheers Kwaker.

How do you know it has a 5-year parts guarantee? Is this as standard? And who do I claim off, do I ring the retailer or an independent engineer?
