So, if in 2009 is renew my passport (i.e. before the 2010 deadline to have one) I would then be 'allowed' to not have an ID card until 2019?

Such a foolproof idea this, it's bound to stop terrorism and benefit freud! Rolling Eyes

Laughing

Well spotted!

Mr Fraud would indeed be a relation of Sigmund, possibly his sister.

wrong , if you apply for a passport after Julyish 2007 your name it put on a list , this list obliges you by 1JAN 2010 to get a card at least this is what I infered from the guardian and indy articles.

thats assuming there will be elections , in 2008 or elections at all for that matter.

there was this act

https://politics.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/03/22/2036208&from=rss

'The Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill, 2006

Blair and co rejected "safeguards" , you know things that prevent the abuse of such a law , which gives Labour the power to cancel elections , and go Martial law overnight. The only laws not allowed to be made by this law are:

anything which carries over a 2 year prison sentence*
laws / regs to raise taxes.

(*interesting how executions , death camps and death squads are NOT outlawed)

This combined with that emergency contingencies bill gives them the power to do anything ,

worse case scenario? ,

voting anything but Lab = terrorist ,

Probable scenario? , voted in party promises to repeal the act , but then goes back on its promise

RE:

We will oppose top up fees and will introduce legislation to prevent them

We will be whiter than white

blah blah

If they do I'll put money on them introducing this scheme regardless.

maybe they will , but then again in the 90s and 80s the Conservatives tried to introduce them , but an advisory body made noises much the same as opponents make today , and they shelved the plan.

You will never be happy with the party in power, and 99% of it is down to media portrayal.

No but it was the media that played up the terror threat into a frenzy of public fear after 9/11.

Spew forth propoganda and don't ask questions should be the medias new motto.

not in this town , which has a nick name dole city , where when you go for lunch you see 100s if not 1000s on the streets sitting around doing nothing and the job centre always has massive queues for people signing on (doing a crap job at the moment better than being dole scum) and people on the dole always vote labour.

the May elections might be an indication of what happens.

That said I'm attempting to beef up my career ASAP to make me a more desirable migrant to somewhere else incase our worst fears occur
