When asked at the Italian Bishops’ Conference if gay men should now be allowed to train for the priesthood as long as they remained celibate, Pope Francis said they should not.

He is then believed to have continued by saying in Italian that there was, in the Church, already too much of an air of frociaggine, which translates as a highly offensive slur.

Frociaggine, what a sumptious word! Only in Italian!

The Catholic Church has a long history of relocating priests who interfere with boys, thereby it already condones homosexuality provided the victim is young. What the Pope is saying therefore, is that you can't be a gay priest in isolation but you can be if you are also a nonce.... Shocked

Google Translate doesn't do a very good job of it, only coming up with "smoothness" Shifty and yet, when I retranslate it back from English to Italian, an entirely different word for smoothness comes up. So fuck that.

Personally I prefer finocchio which is also useful as it is the Italian word for fennel, that very tasty herb/vegetable.
