Ok, im looking to do the trip from 15ish july to 15ish august from Plymouth to Santander

i have looked on the Brittany Ferries web site www.brittany-ferries.com and its come back to me at £400

thats £200 each way

+ £5 each way for a reclining seat

- £10 online discount

I have also tried ferrysavers and its come back at £400 aswell

what i want to know is will they all be £400 or is there a possibility of finding it cheaper, as Brittany ferries are the only one to do it so they must all in the end come from them

will rigning them up and trying to haggle with them work or not?

Cheers any advice, tips, help, websites, info welcome!

P&O do a Portsmouth to Bilbao crossing, it seems to be around £200 each way as well, but that's including a 4 berth cabin split 4 ways. Are you sure you're able to get a reclining seat for that length of crossing? Coulda swore when I looked on Brittany's site you had to have a cabin.

Though for what it's worth, the Brittany ferry is supposed to be nicer than the p&o ones.

I don't suppose anyone has any discount ferry codes from magazines etc?

You could drive down from one of the shorter routes. I use the dover calais routes (£40 return). Then enjoy the drive down. It will probably save you some money, but it depends what route you take and what kind of accomodation you use. I would still count on it being around £150 to get down there though.

The only way to save money, when there is only one operator, is to ring up and ask the operator to recommend the cheapest way to travel. They will usually help where they can. Going a few weeks earlier/later may help.

On routes where there are multiple crossings per day, try and be early or late. Avoid peak times.

None of which helps you particularly. If you are on a time limit, take the ferry you looked at, if you are not, then drive down.

ok i opted for a new route taking place, its with a spanish company from portsmouth to bilbao and it came in at £460 with a cabin,

its with a sailing company called Trasmediterranea which is a very large spanish saling company and there going to be doing the portsmouth to bilbao route from the end of may

but its not your conventional ferry its more of a cruise liner, it has swimming pools cinemas, clubs, gyms the lot, so it should be interesting!
