For that sort of money you'll be looking for a Garmin Quest. Occasionally they're on special offer, Halfords had them at £150 for a limited time earlier this year.

Sparky if you go to https://www.ram-mount.com/ they have a configurator on there where you can select your device and bike and it will tell you what you need.

There's this Universal Mount with the handlebar mount option for £25. In place of the handlebar mount could get the Universal Motorbike Mount 1 (RAM Part: RAM-B-309-1) from GPS Warehouse.

GPS Warehouse doen't sell as complete kit but the bits are TomTom GO Mount (RAM Part: RAM-B-202-TO1) suitable for the 300 is £14, the RAM-B-201 arm is £10. Handlebar kit is £12 or the universal bike mount is also £12.

I did find GPS Warehouse very helpful in picking the right connections for my system. You could drop them an email or phone.

HTH Thumbs Up

Does anyone know how I can wire up my PDA and the bluetooth GPS receiver to the bike's battery? I'm no good at electrics at all.

Sparky, how did you get on with the mount for your bike? Seeing as I've got the same bike, I was wondering if there was enough room to attach the mount to the bars.

Also what do you use for sound when you're on the bike? Is there such a thing as in-ear bluetooth headphones? Maybe a bluetooth ear piece? Don't really fancy being attached to the bike by wires.

Cheers! Thumbs Up

Have a search on here, a few threads about it.

I like the look of the Garmin GPSMAP 60 series.

I got myself a lighter extension, took the end off and wired it up to the bikes battery, when I dont use it I put it away under the seat. As for sound im going to get a phono extension that will plug into the pda and then plug the headphones into the extension, that way your not fastened to the bike.

And you'll need a charger for your pda.

Hmmm, interesting.

I have one of those optimate leads for charging my battery - does that work both ways, ie. can it be a power lead for a PDA.

Would it just be easier to wire up a seperate cable as mentioned above?

I dont think an optimate lead would do the job, depends what your pda is, I got mine from the USA, its for an x50.

Yes, your optimate lead can be a power lead for you pda (it hardly draws any current).

Excellent - so the current can flow both ways?

Any idea where I could get an adapter for that? I assume there must be something out there that would convert into a cigarette lighter socket?

Edit: Can't see anything on the net, but I'm assuming that if I got hold of a spare optimate socket, and wired it onto the business end of a ciggy charger for my pda, it would do the business? A bike battery is 12v, the same as a car battery, correct?

Not sure, but think the one dusty had years ago used standard connectors for R/C cars. If so, maplins sell the connectors.

Looks like it's going to be a case of bodging an optimate style plug onto the other end of a female cig. socket, then bundling that and the cig./USB adaptor into the tankbag with the PDA.

Indeed G is correct again, I have a home made lead using the plug from Maplin (12v power plug - Just say like the one on an R/C car) and a Maplin cigar socket extension lead (hack end off and connect to plug).

Don't forget to check the polarity before connecting electrical items, its a waste of usb adapter (personal experience).

I like your skills - karma cookies on the way when I'm allowed to post some again!

Any issues with waterproofing? That said, I doubt I'd be using a £500 phone in a downpour anyway!

I just cut a tiny hole in the bottom of my tankbag, fed the leads thru that and put the lighter/pda charger in the bottom, with the pda in the see thru top, if it rains I can always use the tank bag cover. If your using a mount though it could be a problem, as will loose cables.

Nahh, using a mini-tank bag, when HG actually ring me and tell me that it's in, so all should be fine.

If anyone ends up using a mount, just slosh some silicon gel around all holes with cables etc. My HG tank bag only seems to suffer from condensation, its never leaked into the map pocket and only in the heaviest downpours leaks into the main area.
