Im wondering if there are any actual benefits of having a bellypan on a naked or half faired bike?

Other than asthetics obviously.

Im buying an xj600s for a bit of touring and as a hack and reckon if there are any benefits of a bellypan i might get one. i mean do they help pretect road crap getting onto your downpipes?

Do they increase downforce? (This is a joke comment!)

Do they have any benefit other than pure astehtics at all?

Maybe smooth the air flow a wee bit. (not that you will really notice)

Most for looking fancy to be honest.

My GPZ500 had one. I took it off to see what would happen without it. At speeds over 100mph the bike weaved. Obviously it was there for a reason, so I refitted it.

Cheers lads i might buy one if i can find it in that stupid yamaha turquoise colour.

I mean, if it'll save the underside of the bike getting covered in shit, even a little thats beneficial in my eyes!

Once some of that craps on it just doesnt come off...

Hi

Generally no real purpose. Might stop a bit of rubbish getting on the engine, but then also means the rubbish that gets behind it is harder to clean off.

For race use these days they are probably there to catch a quantity of liquid should the engine go pop.

Not taken the bellypan off mine but I dare say I'll have to when I whip my exhaust off to have a small crack welded up, might leave it off now and go for a spin just to see if I can discern any difference.
