That's because it's a model from before I was born.

Don't know what years your's is but David Silver has them for £35. Not sure if it's a mistake but he lists the same part number for all the years (well, the 3 or 4 that i looked at).

Cheaper than ebay for a main stand but still dearer than a side stand.

Done.

Probably not bad for a quick weld job. Cost £20. My bike is standing of it's own free will, right now! I just hope it lasts.

Now look after it.

If I was you I'd clean it and then smear it with old engine oil.

Good job, but do yourself a favor. Paint the whole lot a couple of times, paint prevents rust and will last longer. Wink

If you washed your bike once in a while, you'd have spotted the centrestand failing before it broke. Thumbs Up

Wonder what else could be about to fail. Neutral

Everything on my bike is failing / is about to fail. I bump start it everywhere, the alternator doesn't charge the battery, tires are almost bald, engine isn't running well, the only mirror bends the wrong direction in the wind and may fall off at any moment, the speedo bulb is gone, I can sometimes hear the speedo cable as it's held on with gaffa tape (but thankfully not too many miles have gone missing), the air filter is mostly ruined, the carb has never been cleaned, as far as I know the oil leaks have stopped but who knows what damage it did, the choke has never really worked properly (it's good for starting it but it refuses to idle), the rear reflector that's supposed to be under the licence plate rusted a bit and then snapped off, big dent in the tank, the preload on the suspension is all wrong, the rear wheel is misaligned, the steering lock is broken, the right side panel is held on with cable ties, I now have to mix and match keys for ignition and the petrol tank, the seat has a few rips, the bar end is really wanting to fall out and the rear brake shoes are pretty much gone (they seem to make no impact on my braking ability at all except to bring me to nice controlled stops).... It doesn't help that I take it off road.

It's due for an MOT this year but I'm sure it'll pass Mr. Green

But it still rides perfectly around town once it gets going really and still hits 60MPH to get to the next town etc.

£1000 ono, any takers? Razz See, CG's really are indestructible. It's kept going for months and months and months. I'll probably to a top end rebuild or something, soon soon (so I keep telling myself).

It's been remarkably cheap. How many miles have you done on a CG and how has it managed to fair?

If all goes to plan and I get my licence soon I might very well go for big bore at some point as I can't see this bike ever being sold to someone else. The plan is to keep on using it until it dies forever. Why people get rid of their little bikes at all when they move up I don't know.

I made the mistake of getting rid of my Fizzy when I bought a 125LC as soon as I was 17. Something I have bitterly regretted for many years. I didn't make the same mistake with the second bike I got really attached to (the RXS, which I've had since Dec 1990).

Most people lose interest in smaller bikes once they have their full licence. But I've always liked tiddlers. I try to have at least one small bike, as well as the RXS, at any given time. I'm finding big bikes less and less attractive these days, particularly with the cost of fuel reaching ridiculous levels.

+1 I can't see myself getting a bigger bike (MAYBE a 250 single one day, but that's a big maybe) even though I've had a full license for nearly 2 years, but we're all in it for different reasons. For me it's the cheap factor and the tinkerer in me that enjoys having a machine that I am able to work on practically every part of in my little garage with basic tools, should I wish to. Try doing that with a modern car... It gets me about for a pittance and it's fun at the same time.

Once you get a license and some NCB behind you, insurance is bugger all (mine was about £70 TPF+T at last renewal). £15 a week in petrol for 250 miles = 90mpg of pure bargain-ness!

But seriously, look after your bike, most of those things that you list should really be sortable/preventable if you service it properly and regularly. It'll cost you more money and time in the long run to sort out a big problem caused by neglect if you don't. Not to mention that you could end up getting yourself killed if something were to give up during mid-flight. Thumbs Up
