Hi

Doesn't sound like the battery to be honest. Takes a hell of a lot of power to crank the engine over compared to just keeping it running.

All the best

Maybe some water in the carbs ? or a blocked fuel line ?... sticking choke ?

Exactly how did it die ?

Was it running rough/choppy, intermitent firing or just suddenly die ?

Deffo not battery if it starts off the button..

Hi

Possible it has flooded, but not likely normally. Choke sticking (the cables on the Bandit can stick and snap)? Fuel on prime?

My 1200 was a pain once with a similar issue. Turned out a needle valve was sticking. Found out when I left it on prime and it dumped 3 gallons of petrol through the carbs into the airbox and engine overnight.

All the best

Keith

Is the choke stuck on at all ?

I assume its the 4 bank of carbs with the pull out choke lever on it ?

Or Maybe low on fuel ?

Is it still doing it now or did it just happen the once Question

Might the cdi need a certain amount of power in order to work?

Yes, but far less than the starter motor needs to operate.

All the best

I had a very similar problem especially now in the cold weather.

My Bandit would slowly just die when idling. I noticed the bike was idling at about 800rpm, the manual says 1,100-1,200 rpm is recommended.

Slightly OT, would a race can affect the idle speed? I never had a problem when I had the road can on for the MOT.

Cheers

Yes it would. At idle the amount of air going through the carbs is tiny and tiny changes in the system can have a major effect. Quite likely that just changes in the weather can have a similar effect.

All the best

You had the problem because it was running lean.

The oil pump on these engines doesn't start working at the right pressure until 800-900rpm so not only did you have the chance of seizing due to running lean but also as your oil pressure wasn't high enough.

Oops!

Oh well, I've sorted it all out now anyway. Let's just hope I've not done too much damage. Not really ridden it much as it's been untaxed etc for the past 5 months.
