Fabric ones you can wear as normal trousers as well as on the bike.
I currently have some red-route combats with kevelar weave panels on the arse and knees but I'm aware things have moved on and there are some that are now a complete fabric rather than having sewn in panels to soak up the water.
Unecessarily complex list of riders that make normal ones not what I want:
1) I don't wear denim jeans, especially not blue denim.
2) I like having pockets. Combat trouser style. And belt loops.
3) I am not at home to a layered construction.
4) Armour, meh. I have landed up removing it from every pair of bike trousers I own because it sits oddly so if there's armour, it needs to be removable.
5) Waterproof is a lie.
6) Machine washable or fuck off.
Basically an up to date version of these made of a single fabric layer. Only reason I'm replacing them is they've been worn so much they are starting to fall apart.

There are 2 things that can surely kill the fun in bikes:
1) Mechanical problems
2) A need to be prepared
These days I just throw on motorcycle overtrousers over whatever trousers I'm wearing. Takes me next to no time at all. They are armored, but this doesn't cause an issue. They are completely water resistant and have lots of pockets. 2 minutes and they're on, and so are the boots, without rushing. I've had these overtrousers for some time, so I don't know the brand offhand. I used to look for trousers and boots that served dual purpose, but no more. To be honest, I will ride shorter distances without proper trousers. Boots are my minimum, as I think they're seriously underrated (I was hit from the side by a Range Rover and just got deep bruising thanks to boots, so I'm a convert). There is obviously a good reason to be safety conscious and to wear proper gear all the time, but taking it too seriously will stifle the enjoyment. As you know, motorcycling entails inherent risk anyway. Overtrousers aren't bad once you get used to them. |
